Windows 2000 Dial Up Instructions

  1. Click on Start (Bottom left-hand corner)
  2. Click on Run
  3. Type icwconn1.exe into the “Open” field
  4. Select the 3rd Radio Button (I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network [LAN]) then click Next
  5. Select the 1st Radio Button (I connect through a phone line and a modem) then click Next
  6. If you are prompted to “Install a New Modem”, click next and Windows will attempt to detect your modem. If it does not detect it, you will need to install it manually.
  7. Enter the local number you were given to access Egyptian. Take the check mark out of the box indicating “Use area code and dialing rules”. Click the Advanced Button.
  8. Click the Addresses Tab and select the 2nd Radio Button under DNS server address (Always use the following) Primary DNS server is 216.138.56.11 Alternate DNS server is 216.138.0.4 Click OK then click Next
  9. Enter your user name and password into the appropriate fields then click Next
  10. Enter Egyptian as the Connection name and click Next
  11. You will be asked if you want to set up an Internet mail account now? Select Yes and click Next
  12. Make sure the Radio Button for “Create a new Internet mail account” is selected then click Next
  13. The Display name can be whatever you wish, but a word of caution. Whatever you type into this field will accompany your messages that you send out. For example, If your name is John or Jane Smith and your E-mail address is snoopy@egyptian.net and you type John/Jane Smith into the Display name field, then everyone that you send a message to will know your first and last name. It may be in your best interest to just use your first name or 1st initial and last name or even better, a nickname or your user name. It is entirely up to you. Click Next
  14. Enter your E-mail address and click Next
  15. At the top of this page it should read “My incoming mail server is a POP3 server”. If it already says that go to step 16. If POP3 is NOT there, click the button with the black upside down triangle to the right of the white rectangular box and click on POP3.
  16. Enter mail.egyptian.net into BOTH the Incoming AND Outgoing mail server fields. Click Next
  17. Enter your user name into the Account name field and then your password in the password field. You may de-select the Remember password box if you choose. Make sure there IS NOT a check mark in Log on using Secure Password Authentication. Click Next
  18. If you are able to connect right now (i.e. You are not using that phone line that you will be using to connect or your account IS active, leave the check mark in the “To connect to the Internet immediately, select this box and then click Finish” box and Click Finish. If you will be connecting later on, de-select that box and click Finish.
