How to Setup a Personal Web Page

  1. Connect to a Egyptian Internet local dial-up number.
  2. Double-click on the FTP icon.

  3. You will have to purchase or use a shareware version of an ftp program. A few places to find shareware software would be at www.shareware.com or www.tucows.com.

    If you have already configured ftp to connect to Egyptian Communication move on to step #3.
    1. In the "Config name" box, type Egyptian
    2. In the "Host name" box, type ftp.egyptian.net
    3. In the "Host type" box, choose auto detect
    4. In the "User ID" box, Type your login name
    5. Leave the "Password", "Account", "Remote Dir", and "Local Dir" boxes empty.
    6. Click on "Save Config"

    The next time you connect all you have to do select Egyptian and click OK
  4. Click "OK" and type your password when prompted

  5. You are now logged into the server
  6. Double-click on "public_html" to enter that directory
  7. On the LEFT side, which is local host (your computer is local host), find the webpage you have already created.
  8. Click on your Webpage to highlight it.
  9. Note: Below the two windows you will see the words "ASCII", "BINARY", and "L8". If you send a text or html file, use "ASCII". If you send a graphics file, use "BINARY".
  10. Click on the arrow pointing to the remote host to send the file to the server
  11. The first page you want visitors to see MUST be named index.html
  12. When you are finished, click the "exit" button to exit FTP.
  13. To view your homepage, Open the Netscape Browser and in the location area type "http://www.egyptian.net/~your-loginname".

Now that you have a homepage, go to Directions for a Homepage Counter to add a counter to your page.
